Spotlight on valves that help you work more efficiently, safely, and sustainably

01/10/25

We ended 2024 on a high at Valve World, showcasing the wide range of valve solutions from our M&J Valve and Copes-Vulcan brands. Potential and existing customers flocked to the Celeros FT booth to see the latest valve designs, developed to help our customers reduce emissions and optimize efficiency while protecting people and the planet.

David Young, who joined Celeros FT as Aftermarket Service Development Director earlier this year, was on stand with the team, giving visitors the opportunity to view the latest valve innovations and discuss total lifecycle requirements all in one place.

Among the highlights of the show were:

The CFT-Green Valve Packing System from our M&J Valve brand – a pioneering sealing solution aimed at mitigating fugitive emissions in industries such as oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation. It is designed to enhance safety and efficiency by providing a reliable seal for valves, thereby preventing the escape of gases or liquids into the environment.

The CFT-Green system utilizes a unique stem spring-loaded seal mechanism that ensures superior performance and reliability with minimal maintenance to reduce the risk of environmental damage and improve overall safety. This innovative design maintains the correct compression levels over the seal's lifespan, significantly outperforming conventional packing that loses torque and leads to leakage. The system can even accommodate slight misalignments, reducing the need for frequent maintenance. Manufactured in the USA, the CFT-Green Valve Packing System meets stringent industry standards for fugitive emissions control and fire safety.

The DANFLO surge relief valve also generated lots of interest. Rated ANSI 150-900, this valve incorporates a dynamically balanced plug assembly that facilitates swift movement to open, close, and throttle in response to pressure changes. In combination with a predictive pressure rate-of-rise system, these valves form a patented surge relief system that not only responds swiftly to high-pressure surge waves but also proactively monitors the pressure rise rate, enabling a timely and reliable intervention. This purely mechanical solution is immune to power outages or cyber-attacks. It contributes to stable operations by preventing surge events before they occur: minimizing the risk of equipment damage and environmental harm and enhancing the safety and reliability of pipeline operations.

The Direct Steam Conditioning Valve – Steam Atomization (DSCV-SA) from our Copes-Vulcan brand offers multiple advantages in modern power generation applications. Steam atomization improves efficiency because the cooling water is pre-heated, significantly accelerating the evaporation and desuperheating process. Steam atomization is independent of steam velocity or turbulence and delivers very high turndowns — generally in excess of 100:1.

Unlike conventional turbine by-pass valves, the DSCV-SA is designed to use high-pressure balance rather than low-pressure balance. This eliminates the risk of wear, damage, or breakage to piston rings and balancing systems, reducing downtime and maintenance costs. It also avoids stem load fluctuations due to worn seals and surfaces, which can cause low-pressure valves to oscillate violently or not open on command. Improved efficiencies and lower lifecycle costs mean the DSCV-SA is finding new applications in renewable power such as energy-from-waste, as well as conventional power generation.

Thanks to everyone who came to support us at Valve World 2024 – here’s to more great conversations during 2025!
