Keeping up with today’s changing energy landscape can be challenging. Increasing electrification, ageing infrastructure, AI expansion, EV adoption, and industrial decarbonisation are all adding to electricity demand, while at the same time operators are under pressure to strengthen energy security, improve efficiency and extend asset life.
Many conventional and emerging generation technologies rely on steam to drive turbines, including conventional and nuclear power stations, energy-from-waste facilities and industrial combined heat and power plants. Steam also plays a vital role in refineries, petrochemical plants, pulp and paper mills, chemical processing operations, and many other steam-intensive industries.
Across all these applications, accurate steam conditioning helps protect equipment, improve efficiency, and maintain reliable operation. Choosing the right desuperheater technology is therefore a critical engineering decision.
Desuperheaters reduce steam temperature by introducing cooling water into the steam flow. However, steam pressure, load profile, turndown requirements, cooling water conditions, and installation constraints differ significantly between applications, meaning that no single design is suitable for every operating environment.
That’s why our Copes-Vulcan brand offers a comprehensive range of desuperheaters. For steady-state conditions, our mechanical atomising and variable annulus designs provide dependable temperature control. If you need wider operating ranges, higher turndown or more precise control as loads change, our variable orifice and multi-nozzle designs may be more suitable.
Where conventional water atomisation is less effective, our steam atomising designs use steam to assist atomisation, enabling effective cooling across a wide operating range and under demanding process conditions.
Find the right desuperheater for your application
We don't simply supply desuperheaters. We work with you to understand your steam system, operating profile and long-term objectives so we can recommend the most appropriate desuperheater technology and continue supporting it throughout its operational life.
