The History of Copes-Vulcan
1898
James W. Copes, a licensed engineer and UK immigrant, installs his first feed water regulator in the Witherspoon Building in Philadelphia, PA in the USA.
A year later, he applies for a patent for his feed water regulator valve and pump governor.
1903
The Copes Brand is Founded
1903
The Vulcan Soot Cleaner Company
The Vulcan Soot Cleaner Company begins selling soot blowers for boiler cleaning
1927
COPES REGULATORS LTD
The UK subsidiary is opened, known as Copes Regulators LTD
1933
The Vulcan Soot Cleaner Company becomes the Vulcan Soot Blower Company
1945
Copes feedwater regulators and other Copes products contribute to the war effort and are installed on numerous ship types, including The Victory Ship, Iowa Class Battleships such as the U.S.S. Missouri, destroyers, cruisers, and escorts vessels.
1952
Continental Foundry has acquired our two heritage companies and relocates the Copes product line and the Vulcan product line to a new site in Erie, PA.
The combined companies are known as the Copes-Vulcan division.
1968
White Consolidated Industries acquires the Blaw Knox Company.
Copes-Vulcan are incorporated as a wholly owned subsidiary. Copes-Vulcan acquire the Republic brand of valves and desuperheaters (Republic had acquired Swartwout’s power plant line in 1956).
1997
Copes-Vulcan sell the long time Vulcan soot blower operation to focus fully on high pressure and steam conditioning valve technologies.
2000
Copes-Vulcan are acquired by DeZURIK, a subsidiary of SPX. The company name is changed to DeZURIK/Copes-Vulcan.
2015
SPX Corporation spins off its fluid and filtration system product lines into a new company named SPX FLOW.
Copes-Vulcan continue as a brand under SPX FLOW.
2020
Celeros Flow Technology
Copes-Vulcan are one of eight brands from SPX FLOW Power & Energy Division to become Celeros Flow Technology.
